📚 PROGRAM IN DEPTH

PADI Freediver Course — Program in Depth

Every PADI Freediver course is led by our in-house PADI-certified freediving instructors, at a maximum ratio of 3 students per instructor, so you get hands-on, personal attention in the pool and on the boat.

PADI Freediver builds directly on your PADI Basic Freediver certification — targeting static apnea to 2:00, dynamic apnea to 40m, and your first constant weight (CWT) dives to 10-16m along a descent line. The course runs 2-3 days: one pool day of theory and technique refinement via PADI Freediver Touch, followed by one or two open water days at Racha Yai island applying constant weight technique under close instructor supervision.

Day 1
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM · Chalong Pool

Theory session via PADI Freediver Touch covering deeper equalisation and CWT technique, followed by confined-water practice: static apnea to 2:00, dynamic apnea to 40m, and dry line/weighting drills, coached one-on-one by your instructor.

Day 2
Full Day Trip · Racha Yai Island
  • 7:30 AMHotel pickup and transfer (Patong, Karon, Kata, Chalong)
  • 9:00 AMWelcome aboard! Breakfast served on the way to Racha Yai
  • 10:00 AMFirst constant weight dives on the line, building toward 10-16m
  • 12:00 PMLunch on board, then free time for snorkeling and sunbathing
  • 1:00 PMSecond session of CWT dives, refining equalisation and technique
  • 3:00 PMRest and relax on the way back to Chalong Pier
  • 3:30 PMArrive back at Chalong Pier
  • 4:00 PMDrop-off at your hotel
Day 3
(3-day option)
Optional Second Open Water Day · Racha Yai Island

Students booking the 3-day / ฿9,900 option get a second full day at Racha Yai for additional CWT dives, extra depth progression, and more relaxed pacing for students who want more time in the water before certifying.

  • Static apnea: extending your breath-hold to 2:00, face-down in the pool
  • Dynamic apnea: underwater swimming technique with fins to 40m on a single breath
  • Constant weight (CWT) diving: your first fin-assisted descents along a line to 10-16m
  • Advanced equalisation: refining Frenzel technique for comfortable descents at depth
  • Breathing & relaxation: deeper pre-dive breathe-up routines to slow your heart rate and conserve oxygen
  • Rescue technique: buddy safety, surface protocols, and recovery breathing for open water dives
  • Line & weighting technique: setting up and diving a freediving line safely with correct weighting

All PADI Freediver equipment is included in your course price — nothing extra to rent or buy.

  • Low-volume freediving mask
  • Long free-diving fins
  • Snorkel
  • Wetsuit (tropical-weight, for pool and boat days)
  • Weight belt, sized to you for constant weight diving
  • Freediving descent line, buoy and bottom weight (school-provided for CWT dives)
  • PADI digital course manual (Freediver Touch)
  • Prerequisite: PADI Basic Freediver certification, or an equivalent crossover certification (AIDA 1, SSI Basic Freediver, Molchanovs Lap 1)

  • Swimming ability: adequate swimming skills and good physical health required
  • Avoid scuba diving in the 24 hours before your course (residual nitrogen risk)

  • Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle
  • Hotel pickup is included for Racha Yai boat days (Patong, Karon, Kata, Chalong areas)
🏝️ WHERE YOU'LL DIVE

Your Open Water Days: Racha Yai Island

About an hour by boat from Chalong Pier, Racha Yai's calm, clear bays are exactly why we use it for your PADI Freediver constant weight dives — sheltered conditions with enough depth on the line to build real progression, without fighting current.

Racha Yai island bay near Phuket, calm sheltered water
CALM & CLEAR Sheltered, Line-Ready Bays

Racha Yai's bays are naturally sheltered from currents and swell, with visibility regularly reaching 15–20 metres — ideal conditions for running a freediving line and focusing purely on your CWT technique.

GUIDED PROGRESSION Depth Built Up Dive by Dive

Your instructor increases the line depth gradually across your dives, working toward the 10-16m CWT target — never pushed further than your equalisation and comfort allow that day.

Coral reef and marine life at Racha Yai, Phuket
MARINE LIFE Colorful Reefs & Friendly Fish

Expect vibrant hard and soft corals, clownfish, and parrotfish — and with a bit of luck, a turtle gliding past while you're gliding down the line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need PADI Basic Freediver before this course?
Yes — PADI Freediver requires PADI Basic Freediver, or an equivalent crossover certification (AIDA 1, SSI Basic Freediver, Molchanovs Lap 1), before booking. If you're completely new to freediving, start with PADI Basic Freediver first, then progress straight into this course.
What is the best time of year for freediving in Phuket?
The Andaman Sea is diveable year-round. The calmest conditions are typically November to April, with excellent visibility and flat seas.
How many students per instructor?
We keep groups small — maximum 3 students per instructor for safety and quality of coaching.
What depth will I reach during the course?
PADI Freediver targets constant weight (CWT) dives to 10-16m along a line, alongside static apnea to 2:00 and dynamic apnea to 40m. Your instructor increases depth gradually across your dives based on your equalisation and comfort — never pushed further than what's relaxed and safe for you that day.
Is this course right for me?
PADI Freediver is available to certified PADI Basic Freediver holders (or an equivalent AIDA 1, SSI Basic Freediver, or Molchanovs Lap 1 crossover) aged 15+ with adequate swimming skills. It suits divers ready to move beyond entry-level skills into real constant weight diving. Not sure if you qualify? Contact us and we'll advise honestly.
Can I do the course if I struggle to equalise?
Yes — equalisation is the single biggest focus of PADI Freediver. Even if Frenzel felt shaky in Basic Freediver, this course dedicates real pool time to refining your technique before you ever get on the line at Racha Yai. Most students see a big jump in comfort and depth by the end of the course.
What should I bring to the course?
Just swimwear, a towel, sun protection, and a reusable water bottle. We provide all freediving equipment — mask, fins, wetsuit, weight belt, line and weights — included in your course price. If you have your own mask or fins you're comfortable with, feel free to bring them.
Is freediving dangerous for beginners?
Freediving is very safe when taught properly. PADI Freediver builds on the safety fundamentals from PADI Basic Freediver, with continued focus on safety protocols, buddy diving, and depth progression that's always guided by your instructor. With a maximum of 3 students per instructor, you're closely supervised in the pool and at every stage of your open water dives.
Can I do the course alone, or do I need a buddy?
You don't need to bring a buddy — most of our students book solo. Buddy diving and rescue technique are core parts of PADI Freediver safety training, and you'll be paired with another student or your instructor for all open water sessions. Solo travellers are very welcome.
What happens if I don't pass the assessment?
There's no rush and no pressure. If you're not quite ready on the first attempt, we'll work with you on extra pool or open water time to help you get there — most students simply need a little more practice with equalisation or depth progression, and we adjust the pace to suit you.
Do you offer private courses?
Yes — if you'd prefer one-on-one instruction or want to book the course privately for your group, just message us and we'll arrange it. Private courses follow the same PADI Freediver curriculum and certification, with full flexibility on scheduling.
What's the water temperature like in Phuket?
The Andaman Sea stays warm year-round, typically between 28–30°C (82–86°F). A 3mm wetsuit (which we provide) is plenty for comfort during longer sessions, but many students freedive comfortably without one in the warmer months.
