Fun Dive: Already Certified? Get Straight In

No briefing marathon, no confined-water practice — just a straightforward dive at Kata Reef for divers who already know what they're doing.

  • 📋 Requires

    Open Water cert or equivalent

  • ⏱ Duration

    1 dive · 1 hour

  • 🌊 Depth

    Up to 12m

  • 🧭 Instruction

    Guided, not taught

Your gear gets a quick check at the center, then you walk straight into the water with a guide who knows the reef. There's no lesson to sit through — you're already a certified diver, so the dive itself is the point, not the instruction. It's the option for a relaxed, low-effort dive between other things on your Phuket itinerary.

Fun Dive vs. Discover Dive — what's the difference?

Fun Dive is for people who already hold a scuba certification and just want to dive, no instruction needed. Never dived before? You'll want the Discover Dive instead — it includes full teaching and one-on-one guidance for complete beginners.

See Discover Dive →
🌊 Discover Dive

Discover Dive: Your First Time Underwater, Step by Step

Built for people who've never put on scuba gear in their life — full teaching included, no experience required.

  • Experience Needed

None — first time is fine

  • Includes

    Briefing + shallow practice + 1 dive

  • Depth

    Up to 12m

  • Instruction

    One-on-one, full teaching

Your instructor stays with you from the first breath through a regulator on land to the moment you surface at the reef. Nothing is assumed — every skill gets shown and practiced in shallow water before you go anywhere near the dive site. It's the natural starting point if scuba is completely new to you.

How the Dive Works, Step by Step

1

Meet Your Instructor & Get Briefed

On land, before anything touches water, your instructor walks you through the gear, basic hand signals, and what to expect underwater. Questions welcome — this is the time to ask them.

2

Get Comfortable in Shallow Water

Before heading to the reef, you'll practice the basics standing in shallow water: breathing through the regulator, clearing your mask, equalizing your ears. Nobody rushes this part.

3

Your Guided Reef Dive

Your instructor stays right beside you — often holding on — the entire time. You'll explore Kata Reef at an easy pace, going only as deep as you're comfortable with.

4

Surface, Debrief & Celebrate

Back at the center, your instructor talks through what you saw and answers any questions. Plenty of first-timers ask about signing up for a full certification right after this.

Common Worries, Answered Honestly

"I'm not a strong swimmer." You don't swim on a Discover Dive — your gear does the floating, and your instructor guides you the whole way.
"What if I panic underwater?" You're never more than an arm's length from your instructor, and you can signal to stop or surface at any point.
"What if I run out of air?" Your instructor watches your air gauge for you throughout the dive — it's their job, not yours to worry about.
🌙 Night Dive

Night Dive: Kata Reef After Dark

Same reef, completely different dive. For certified divers who want to see how the site changes once the sun goes down.

  • Starts

    Early evening

  • Duration

    1 dive · 1 hour

  • Requires

    Certified diver

  • Equipment

    Dive light included

The same shallow, current-free conditions that make Kata Reef easy by day make it a genuinely comfortable night dive too — short surface swim in, no boat, and a familiar site rather than somewhere new in the dark. Your dive light also brings back colors that daylight washes out on a shallow reef like this.

A guide leads every night dive here, so you're not navigating an unfamiliar reef in the dark on your own.

"Pomme was phenomenal at giving clear instructions and teaching us, especially since we were complete beginners. My friend doesn't even swim, yet she felt totally comfortable scuba diving thanks to how patient and thorough Pomme was. I felt completely prepared before getting in the water."

The Dive Site

Kata Reef, South Side, in Depth

🚶 Entry Shore, south end of Kata Beach
📏 Depth ~5m at the wall, 2–12m across the reef
👁 Visibility 3–12m typical, up to 20m on a good day
🌊 Current Slow-moving, beginner-friendly
🌗 Best Tide Slack high tide — clearest water
📅 Best Season Late October to April

You walk in from the south end of Kata Beach and swim straight out to a low wall lined with small reef patches and scattered rocks — hard coral growing over a sandy bottom. It's one of the reasons local dive centers use this exact spot for training: the entry is easy, the current is gentle, and the terrain stays shallow and forgiving while still being genuinely interesting to explore. Divers here often call it the "nursery of Phuket" for exactly that reason. Like any shallow reef, visibility here moves with the tide — we schedule dives around slack high tide, when water movement is at its lowest and the reef is at its clearest, rather than diving on a fixed clock regardless of conditions.

What You Might Spot

🐴 Seahorses 🎏 Pipefish 🐙 Mimic octopus 🐌 Nudibranchs 🐍 Moray eels 🦈 Stingrays 🐠 Schooling fish 🐢 Turtles (occasional)

Marine life varies dive to dive — sightings like turtles are a genuine possibility here, not a guarantee.
