Certified Elsewhere at This Level?

Hold an equivalent certification — Molchanovs Wave 3, AIDA 4, or PADI Master Freediver? A crossover evaluation lets you skip straight to Level 3 without repeating Level 2. You'll also need a current CPR/First Aid certificate (less than 2 years old) before booking.

🏝️ WHERE YOU'LL DIVE

Your Open Water Days: Racha Yai Island

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need SSI Freediving Level 2 before taking Level 3?
Yes — SSI Freediving Level 2 (or an equivalent certification from another agency) is a mandatory prerequisite for Level 3. If you don't hold it yet, start with our intermediate open water course first.
Can I use a certification from another agency instead of SSI Level 2?
Yes — if you hold an equivalent certification such as Molchanovs Wave 2, AIDA 3, or PADI Advanced Freediver, a quick crossover evaluation lets you join SSI Level 3 directly without repeating Level 2. You'll also need a current CPR/First Aid certificate (less than 2 years old) before booking.
What's the difference between SSI Level 2 and SSI Level 3?
SSI Level 2 reaches a certification depth of 24-30 metres. SSI Level 3 (Master Freediver) builds directly on that — 5 days combining pool theory, a moderate-depth Kata Reef practice day, and two open-water days at Racha Yai Island, pushing your certification depth to 34-40 metres and introducing advanced mouthfill equalization plus constant weight no-fins diving to 25-30 metres.
What is the best time of year for freediving in Phuket?
Phuket's diving season runs November to April, with the calmest seas and best visibility around Racha Yai Island. The monsoon season (May–October) can bring rougher conditions on the west coast, though Racha Yai's sheltered bays often stay diveable — if conditions aren't safe on your scheduled day, we'll reschedule at no extra cost.
How many students per instructor?
Every SSI Level 3 course is capped at a maximum of 3 students per instructor, so you get hands-on, personal attention in the pool and on the boat.
What depth will I reach during the course?
SSI Level 3 targets a certification depth range of 34-40 metres using constant weight and free immersion technique, plus constant weight no-fins (CNF) dives to 25-30 metres.
What is mouthfill equalization and do I need to know it already?
No prior experience with mouthfill needed — it's taught from scratch on Day 2, first dry, then in the pool, combined with reverse packing. You'll apply it at moderate depth on your Kata Reef day before using it on your Racha Yai certification dives.
Can I do the course if I struggle to equalise under exertion?
Yes — Level 3's entire Day 2 is dedicated to advanced equalization technique, starting dry and in the pool with no depth pressure to manage. You'll build the skill progressively before applying it at 34-40m on your Racha Yai boat days.
What should I bring to the course?
Just swimwear, a towel, sun protection, and a reusable water bottle. We provide all freediving equipment — mask, long bi-fins, snorkel, wetsuit, weight belt, and lanyard — included in your course price.
Is freediving safe at SSI Level 3 depths?
Yes. All open-water dives are conducted along a weighted line with a qualified SSI Instructor spotting every dive and buddy pair, and Level 3 includes dedicated blackout rescue and 20m surface tow skills assessments as part of the curriculum.
Can I do the course alone, or do I need a buddy?
You don't need to bring a buddy — most students book solo. Buddy safety protocols, including buddying practice from 20m, are taught as part of the Level 3 curriculum, and you'll be paired with another student or your instructor throughout the course.
What happens if I don't pass the assessment?
There's no rush and no pressure. If you need more practice with mouthfill equalization, breath-hold, or no-fins technique, we'll work with you on extra pool or reef time before heading back out to Racha Yai — most students just need a little more practice.
Do you offer private courses?
Yes — if you'd prefer one-on-one instruction or want to book privately for your group, just message us and we'll arrange it. Private courses follow the same SSI Level 3 curriculum and certification, with full flexibility on scheduling.
What's the water temperature like in Phuket?
Water temperature around Phuket and Racha Yai stays warm year-round, typically 28-30°C, so a light wetsuit is comfortable for most divers (included in your course price).
